Created by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann for HBO, season 2 of the series introduces new cast members. It includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Spencer Lord as Owen, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Isabela Merced as Ellie’s romantic interest Dina, and Young Mazino as Dina’s ex Jesse.
Home Alone star Catherine O’Hara will also have a guest appearance in an undisclosed role. Other guest stars include Anna Torv, Nico Parker, Gabriel Luna, Merle Dandridge, Lamar Johnson, Keivonn Montreal Woodard, Melanie Lynskey and Jeffrey Pierce. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Wright will reprise his role as Issac, the ruthless leader of the Washington Liberation, a Seattle-based faction.
Coming to its storyline, the upcoming season is set five years later from the post-apocalyptic phase across the US featuring an even more aged Joel and Ellie as they face off against fungal, zombie clickers. Last month, the makers of the series released its official trailer video on Instagram leaving fans excited.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Craig Mazin talked about the seven episodes in Season 2, ensuring that each one will be no less than a “meal". In his words: “Each episode is like a meal. You can have a light dinner or you can go to a 12-course French restaurant," Mazin said. “We have seven episodes. They are high-calorie, dense episodes. If you consider action and drama and scope to be the things that create an epic nature, each one of these episodes packs quite a wallop. You will not be bored."
